Gerbera Daisy are originally from South Africa and prefer full and tolerate some shade well. They are availble in all colors except true blue and purple. Some are semi double but all varieties have long stems that bear blossoms making long lasting cut flowers. Plant in containers with well drained soils or ground beds with some compost if possible (or peat based soils that are available in stores). Watch for aphids and other pests and use an insecticide such as Bayer Advanced products here. We grow single flowered varieties “Revolution” series as pictured below:

Avoid watering late at night and especially watering overhead with a sprayer since powdery mildew can develop easily. Use a fungicide of your choice or find a Bayer Advanced product such as this.
